VI. PRIORITY BUSINESS
Administrators’ Reports
Mrs. Helman’s report included enrollment, and students’ development of “hopes and dreams” in preparation for creating classroom rules. Each class chose a delegate to the constitutional convention where the new school rules were set. The new rules will be presented at the all-school meeting on Thursday morning. The rules are “Make Good Choices,” “Respect everyone and everything everywhere,” and “Do you best every day.” Mrs. Helman reported that the MCAS results are outstanding. The vocal concert dates for the spring have been established.
She provided a list of current bus drivers. The Community Read-Aloud book will be Stuart Little by E. B. White. Student Assistance will begin the week of September 21. The faculty is aligning their professional development and they will be reading two books by Carol Ann Tomlinson – The Differentiated Classroom and How to Differentiate Instruction in a Mixed-Ability Classroom. She noted how pleased everyone was with the Music Works Everyday program.
Dr. Hoffmann spoke about the opening day all-staff meeting held at the Middle School. He said it was very powerful to see all the staff together. His message was passion – whatever you do, do it with passion. The administrators have fine tuned district goals and the goals will be displayed in each of the schools.
Dr. Hoffmann discussed the outstanding Eastham MCAS scores for ELA and Math. He indicated that an in depth analysis would be on the agenda next month.
He told the committee he would be having a day long visit in each school. He would shadow the principal, visit classrooms, and meet with anyone who wanted to see him.
He reviewed the reasons for not watching President Obama’s speech on the first day of school – did not receive the information soon enough, did not see text in advance, it was broadcast via streamed video. The administrators will be discussing it tomorrow.
